UK needs high-speed broadband connectivity to meet future challenges

The UK needs to experience a widespread rollout of super-fast broadband in order to meet the challenges of the future.

That is the opinion of Steve Nimmons, technology industry consultant, who said that the key aim for UK broadband is for it to be ready for the next generation of services.

As more and more elements of daily life move online it is vital that the internet connections are there to support the move, as services will continue to take great leaps forward.

"It's much more cost effective and its going to be modernised further and further and become richer for the end users. It's also going to drive the requirement for government capacity," he said.

He said keeping up with competition in other nations, particularly those in Europe, is reason enough for an aggressive rollout programme.

The government has promised that the UK will have the best broadband network in Europe by 2015.
