SIP trunking and the benefits it provides

Session initiation protocol (SIP) trunking can offer businesses a cheaper option to the traditional technologies of ISDN or analogue forms of telephony.

The technology reduces costs by running on an existing internet connection, which limits costs by allowing business users to run anywhere between six and 20 channels of voice calling at the same time.

Trefor Davies, council member of the Internet Telephony Service Providers Association (ITSPA), said companies with more than one site can benefit greatly from SIP trunking.

"If you are a business with more than one site, then you not only just save on the line rental but all the call charges between sites disappear," he explained.

"So if you have SIP trunks instead of ISDN then all the cost of calling from site A to site B is basically free over SIP trunks."

Another bonus that comes with SIP trunking is the fact that it is an advanced technology so it should not require a great deal of preparation before installation.
