Mobile VoIP development ‘at crucial juncture’

The growth of voice over internet protocol (VoIP) has been rapid among businesses, with a host of firms staying connected with the technology.

However, mobile VoIP is set to become the next big thing in the industry and a Visiongain study has indicated that it is currently at a "crucial juncture" in its development.

"Few services promise the transformative impact on the telecoms landscape as mobile VoIP does. With virtually no comparable rival technologies, the only barrier to success lies with operator strategies," the report stated.

The Mobile VoIP Market 2012-2017 report suggested that a host of suppliers are fighting for dominance of the market, which could be worth as much as $2.5 billion (£1.6 billion) this year alone.

Despite some start-up costs related to launching a mobile VoIP setup within a business the cost savings associated with the technology will see money saved in the long run.

A recent report by Research and Markets claimed that the usage of mobile VoIP is increasing among businesses, with the proliferation of smartphones a major driving force behind the trend.
