Quarter of BYOD users bypassing IT department security measures

Almost a quarter of workers who use their own smartphones and tablets are bypassing security measures put in place by their firm's IT department.

The quarterly iPass Mobile Workforce Report found that many workers making use of the BYOD trend do not understand the importance of protecting corporate data.

Where employees do care about protecting information is when it is their own, with three-quarters of respondents adding a passcode on their smartphone.

Businesses looking to boost their security measures can implement mobile device management software, which allow organisations to wipe data from smartphones remotely.

Over half (55 per cent) of mobile workers said they are required to have the capability to wipe data on their smartphones remotely, while 30 per cent say it is required on tablets.

Overall, 74 per cent of companies require some form of security to protect corporate data on a smartphone and 24 per cent need that protection on a tablet.
