IT ‘not keeping up with needs of the business’, say staff

The IT setup within many companies is not as good as it should be and meeting the business' needs, according to a new study.

Hornbill Service Management surveyed almost 1,500 British office workers, with 53 per cent stating that computer systems and other technology is failing to keep pace.

Furthermore, the bring your own device (BYOD) trend could be being fuelled by this lack of suitability, with 40 per cent choosing to use a laptop or tablet that they have bought themselves.

Patrick Bolger, chief evangelist at Hornbill, said that technology does not stand still, whether this is social networks, apps, tablets or new devices.

"This data shows that if the IT department can't adapt to these changes and support new devices and ways of working, it won't only be unable to keep pace with the needs of the business. It could also become divorced from the needs and expectations of users," he added.
