Developed world lagging behind BRICs in BYOD

Despite the rapid growth of the bring your own device (BYOD) trend in the UK, new research conducted by Gartner has revealed developed nations are lagging behind the BRIC countries.

Brazil, Russia, India and China have embraced the advances in technology quicker than their developed counterparts.

Many experts believe this is due to the focus on security as BRIC nations see BYOD as a technical issue, while developed nations are struggling to fit the working practice around data privacy laws.

BYOD demand was higher in the BRIC countries where more Generation Y employees are working.

A report by Gartner indicated that just 28 per cent of developed countries offer support for personal devices, compared to 44 per cent of firms in BRIC nations.

Chae-Gi Lee, research director at Gartner, said: "Enterprises should recognize this and look to 'mobile enable' their IT infrastructure for employees to meet the growing demand for mobile device use in the enterprise IT environment."
