BYOD to drive 35% of tablet sales in 2015

The continuing growth of the bring your own device (BYOD) trend is expected to have a dramatic impact on tablet sales in the coming years.

According to research conducted by Gartner, around 35 per cent of sales in the tablet market in 2015 will come from enterprises.

The report said: "We expect enterprises to allow tablets as part of their buy your own device program. More of these tablets will be owned by consumers who use them at work."

Carolina Milanesi, research vice president at Gartner, said that operating system such as Windows 8 will be very popular in the tablet market.

"IT departments will see Windows 8 as an opportunity to deploy tablets on an OS that is familiar to them and with devices offered by many enterprise-class suppliers," she explained.

The study found that Microsoft tablets are projected to account for 4.1 per cent of media tablet sales this year, and grow to 11.8 per cent of sales by the end of 2016.
