BYOD is the future of IT

The bring your own device (BYOD) trend looks set to continue and play a major role in the future of IT, according to one expert.

Neil Lathwood, technical director at UKFast.co.uk, said there will be a rapid rise in virtual desktops, whether through thin-client computing or BYOD.

"By replacing desktop PCs with a terminal that connects only to a monitor and your network, or allowing employees to connect to the network using their own tablet or mobile device, businesses could cut costs significantly," he added.

Mr Lathwood also noted that the shift towards cloud computing will also play a major role in the future of corporate IT.

He noted that the evolution of the technology is continuing and it is becoming safer and more secure all the time, which is encouraging for business looking to take advantage of the benefits it provides.

"The cloud or network can be locked down to prevent installation of potential malware. [Through this method,] the internal cyber security threat is also massively reduced," he concluded.
