BlackBerry PlayBook outsells Apple iPad 2

BlackBerry PlayBook outsells Apple iPad 2

A week ahead of the announcement of the iPad 3, Apple has seen its iPad 2 outsold by the BlackBerry PlayBook at a number of retailers.

Research in Motion (RIM) took to Twitter to announce that its tablet has seen off competition from the iPad in a selection of chain stores in Canada.

"Yay! #BlackBerry #PlayBook was the #1 selling tablet at Future Shop (@FS_Deals) this week!" the company wrote via the official @BlackBerry Twitter feed.

The announcement comes just days before an Apple press event is due to take place, with many expecting the new iPad 3 to be officially unveiled by the Cupertino tech giant.

Many experts are suggesting that the addition of a standalone email service, a new interface offering multi-tasking capabilities and a customised home screen dock bar, which shows all apps together, has led to a boost in PlayBook sales.

With the OS 2.0, a compatible BlackBerry phone can be used as a remote control, which allows users to launch or close apps, use the phone keypad to type on the PlayBook and control many other features remotely.
