US Department of Commerce implement MDM

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) division of the US Department of Commerce has deployed Fiberlink's MaaS360 mobile device management (MDM) tool.

Officials at the organisation have looked towards the system in a bid to provide visibility and control over a number of government-owned devices which are used by workers every day.

A statement from the department noted that MaaS360 will help to "meet the unique demands of its growing mobile workforce while helping to lead the efforts to expand mobility initiatives".

The National Institute of Standards and Technology and the United States Census Bureau have both been earmarked as other areas that could benefit from mobile device management in the future.

Joe Klimavicz, chief information officer at the NOAA, said: "MaaS360 provides NOAA with a scalable, enterprise class MDM solution that gives us mobile flexibility in a secure environment.

"The solution easily integrates into our current architecture and provides a robust set of tools to manage our existing, as well as future, mobile device requirements."

It will be used to configure smartphones and tablets remotely, while also enforcing security policies on mobile devices and separating personal data from governmental information.

The Department of Commerce joins the Department of the Interior, the General Services Administration (GSA) and other federal agencies that have implemented MaaS360 as their enterprise MDM solution,

Jeff Ward, vice president of federal sales at Fiberlink, explained that cloud computing has now taken centre stage within the government, which has resulted in the mix of personal and professional activities via mobile devices.

"MaaS360 is the best choice for agencies looking to strike the right balance between mobile security policies and government employee productivity," he added.

The key benefits of the implementation of Fiberlink's product are the fact that it is a cloud-based model, boosting convenience, Mobility Intelligence dashboards and reporting, which provide enforcement and remediation on any devices failing to comply with agency policies.

MaaS360 also provides a single platform to securely manage mobile users across smartphones, tablets and laptops on government and employee-owned devices.
