Samsung is set to release three new mid-range smartphones in 2017.
The new Galaxy A series devices will feature the 5.7-inch A7, the 5.2-inch A5 and the 4.7-inch A3, which will offer “refinements that deliver a beautiful design, powerful performance and ultimate convenience,” according to Samsung.
Updating the current A series, the new devices will feature a premium metal frame and 3D glass back. Samsung said that the smartphones will be “more seamless than ever and comfortable to hold and use”.
The Galaxy A series will come with enhanced front and rear 16-megapixel cameras, which are reportedly more stable and feature accurate autofocus, which should result in vibrant and clear photos even in low-light conditions.
For the first time, the Galaxy A series will offer IP68 water and dust resistance, allowing it to withstand the elements, including rain, sweat, sand and dust.
The Galaxy A series will now come with larger memory and expandable storage, with microSD support up to 256GB. The devices will also feature reversible USB Type-C port for connectivity, including “hassle-free charging”.
It also features Samsung’s always-on display, which allows users to quickly glance at notifications and the time without waking up the device. This was developed to save time and battery power.
Battery life is also given an upgrade, while Fast Charge will also be present, meaning that the devices can be powered up in a shorter amount of time.
Users will be able to separate private data and keep this content in a Secure Folder that supports biometric authentication.
“At Samsung, we are always trying to ensure our customers have the most advanced products on the market,” said DJ Koh, president of the mobile communications business at Samsung Electronics.
“The latest Galaxy A series is a testament to this. We integrated our unique approach to design as well as the features Galaxy customers have come to love to provide added performance without compromising on style.”
The Galaxy A range will be available in four colours: Black Sky, Gold Sand, Blue Mist and Peach Cloud. It has not yet been announced how much the devices will sell for.
