Samsung offers free data transfer with SIII

Samsung is offering business users taking up their new Galaxy smartphone a free application that transfers contacts and data from an Apple iPhone.

The Easy Phone Sync app can move contacts, messages and photos, by using an iTunes backup created on a computer.

Offering the app to users who make the move from Apple to Samsung has been described as a smart move by a number of experts, as many people do not move handsets as they are heavily invested in the software offered by other manufacturers.

In a statement, a Samsung executive said: "We know that traditionally iPhone users have been reluctant to switch to an Android device because they couldn't use iTunes to manage their content."

Kwon Oh-hyun, Samsung's new boss, said in his inaugural speech that the manufacturer needs to improve its software offering to compete with other providers.

"A particular focus must be given to serving new customer experience and value," he concluded.
