One in four firms suffered mobile malware attacks in 2011

The growth of mobile devices in the UK and around the world is set to lead to more businesses coming under attack from mobile malware, according to a new report.

According to analysis by Goode Intelligence, the incidence of mobile malware has increased significantly, with a quarter of those surveyed admitting they had been a victim of an attempted attack.

Goode also found that 71 per cent actively encourage employees to bring their own devices to the office, but that many are not paying attention to the security needs of this equipment.

The failure to pay attention to the security needs of personal devices could have disastrous implications.

Just half of organisations that took part in the survey had any form of security or encryption software installed on their employees' mobile devices.

Goode, said: "There is a big question over whether information security professionals can keep up with the pace of change currently seen with smart mobile devices (SMD) and can manage the risks associated with them."
