Nokia ‘working on new tablet computer’

The head of design at Nokia has said the company is currently working on the development of a new tablet computer.

Marko Ahtisaari believes the device will compete with the likes of the iPad, but he refused to offer a timeframe for its launch.

Speaking to business magazine Kauppalehti Optio he said he spends almost one third of his work time developing Nokia's first tablet device using the Windows 8 operating system.

Rumours suggest Nokia's first move into the tablet market will be a ten-inch tablet, running Windows on Arm (WOA), the newest version of Windows 8 to be uncovered.

Although chief executive Stephen Elop has admitted the Finnish firm is keen to enter the tablet market in the past, Ahtisaari is the first executive to acknowledge a device is already under works.

However, Digitimes.com has claimed the device will make its debut in the latter part of the year.
