Nokia unveils mid-range Asha 308 and Asha 309 phones

Nokia has announced two new affordable smartphones in the shape of the Asha 308 and 309.

The devices join the Asha Touch family of mobiles and the company hopes that these mid-range products can take a slice of the market which is headed up by Apple and Android.

Running on S40, the phones incorporate three-inch capacitive LCD displays with an 800MHz CPU and include a two megapixel camera.

While the new phones are not groundbreaking, they are classed as smartphones by GfK and IDC. Both devices have 20MB of internal storage and can take a microSD card up to 32GB for storage of documents, video and MP3s.

The difference comes in the shape of the Asha 308, which supports dual-SIM, making it ideal for developing nations where users might want to switch between multiple cards to get the best local tariffs without having to take the battery out.

Timo Toikkanen, executive vice president for mobile phones at Nokia, said: "Our innovative Asha Touch family of devices is designed for people who want a great smartphone experience with lower running costs."
