No new smartphones to be unveiled at BlackBerry World

Research In Motion (RIM) has announced it will not be showcasing any new smartphones at the next week's BlackBerry World.

A company representative told CNET: "We are not unveiling any BlackBerry 10 hardware."

The annual conference is an opportunity for the firm, developers and BlackBerry enthusiasts to talk about the latest products and software, although this year there will be no new smartphones at the show.

One product that will be unveiled at BlackBerry World is the beta version of the BB 10 toolkit, with developers also being given a Dev Alpha device to begin creating applications for the new operating system.

Last year, RIM used the conference to debut its BlackBerry Bold 9900, its flagship phone, which marked the move to its BlackBerry 7 operating system, which was an update of its older platform.

Despite a lack of new hardware at this year's show, RIM has maintained that it will launch its new range of devices in the latter part of 2012.
