Males demand a bigger smartphone screen than female counterparts

There is a difference between the size of smartphone screens preferred by men and women, according to new research.

The Strategy Analytics Wireless Device Lab report, titled Smartphone Owners Want Thin Devices with Larger Displays, revealed that the ideal dimensions were between four and 4.5 inches.

Females were found to demand a slightly smaller device than men, while current users of Android phones were happy to go after a bigger phone than Apple iPhone fans.

This can be seen in the battle for supremacy between the Samsung Galaxy S2, which has a 4.3-inch screen, and Apple's iPhone 4S which measures up at 3.5-inches.

"Almost 90 per cent of existing smartphone owners surveyed chose a prototype smartphone with a display larger than their current device. This trend is driven by increased mobile web browsing capability, as well as engaging video and gaming experiences," noted Paul Brown, a director in the Strategy Analytics user experience practice.
