Judge allows Samsung smartphone sale in US

Samsung achieved an important victory over its major rival Apple this week as a judge in the US ruled that its Nexus model can go on sale in the country.

The success of the Korean manufacturer's smartphones have propelled the firm ahead of is California-based competitor, but a freeze had been placed on the sale of the device in the US.

Apple had accused Samsung of copying its iPhones and iPad and a court in San Jose granted a temporary ban on Nexus devices last week.

However, the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit said it would temporarily stay the smartphone injunction while it considers Apple's arguments.

The appeals court did not explain the reason for the U-turn. Apple now has until Thursday to file a response.

The pair are currently waging legal war in ten countries, accusing each other of patent violations as they vie for supremacy in a fast-growing market for mobile devices.
