HMRC urges small business to use smartphone for finances

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has urged businesses to make full use of their smartphone devices when it comes to keeping track of finances.

The organisation has launched a number of record-keeping applications for small business to boost financial awareness within organisations.

Naomi Ferguson, director of business customer and strategy at HMRC, said: "These apps will provide the opportunity to keep track of records on the go, wherever business people are.

"Record-keeping is often an add-on to day-to-day running of small businesses and the apps will hopefully help to make it an integral part of the business."

The apps, which are mostly free, have been designed for a variety of operating systems including iOS, Android, and Windows.

Apps for BlackBerry smartphones are yet to be released, but HMRC is expected to offer them in the near future.

HMRC has warned, however, that it had not tested any of the applications, and urged customers to ask suppliers for the security information of the services.
