OnePlus has unveiled its latest smartphone, the 5T, at an event in New York.

An update to the 5, which was released earlier this year, the new phone is priced at the same level and offers incremental upgrades to performance.

The one area where OnePlus has invested in radically altering is the display, with the screen size stretching to fit in with this year’s preferred bezel-free devices. The 5T features a 6.01-inch AMOLED screen with a Full HD+ resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio, which is quickly becoming the standard for smartphones. The increased screen size has resulted in the fingerprint reader being relocated to the back of the phone.

It also comes with a new camera, with the 5T displaying enhanced performance in low light. Although it features the same main camera as the 5, the new device has an improved secondary camera, which is equipped with a large f/1.7 aperture and delivers better low-light photography.

The 5T also offers Intelligent Pixel Technology, which gives the secondary camera the ability to merge four pixels into one, reducing noise in low-light environments and enhancing clarity. OnePlus said that additional software improvements have also been added to Portrait Mode in order to improve noise reduction.

It also now offers Face Unlock, which allows users to unlock the phone by looking at it. OnePlus said it is one of the fastest on the Android market and that it uses over 100 identifiers to unlock the device.

OnePlus founder and chief executive Pete Lau said: "We love nothing more than offering our community the latest and greatest technology and a user experience to beat expectations. Once again, we’ve worked hard to refine every last detail.”

The 5T costs £449 for the 64GB model and £499 for the 128GB version. It goes on sale on November 21st.
