Cloud-based MDM ‘getting hot’

Cloud-based MDM ‘getting hot’

Managing personal devices being used by employees can be a difficult task, but Gartner has revealed that cloud-based mobile device management (MDM) is proving to be a very popular method for increasing security.

Garter analyst Phillip Redman, speaking about the impact of the cloud on mobility at the Gartner IT Infrastructure & Operations Management Summit, said that currently 85 per cent of MDM products are software retained in-house.

However, he noted that a shift towards cloud-based offerings is increasing, with Fiberlink named as one of the top choices.

He explained that cloud-based services have the advantage of getting users deployed with MDM quickly.

"It's getting to the point where it takes less than 24 hours to get your users up and going," he noted.

MaaS360 has proved to be particularly popular among businesses in recent months due to its ability to manage an entire fleet of mobiles in just a few clicks.

It supports all the major smartphone and tablet platforms and provides easy management, reporting and analytics for the whole range of mobile devices within a business.
