BlackBerry unveils BB10 smartphone

Despite claims to the contrary last week, BlackBerry took the opportunity to surprise attendees at BlackBerry World, with the unveiling of the next range of smartphones.

The BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha is the first piece of hardware that will run Research In Motion's (RIM's) upcoming BlackBerry 10 operating system.

RIM chief executive Thorsten Heins unveiled the prototype, which is a fully working BlackBerry 10 smartphone featuring a similar build to the PlayBook.

The keyboard has been completely updated for touchscreen handsets, boasting a fluid predictive text system, which also features the ability to 'throw' predicted words up into the message.

Users of the PlayBook tablet will be happy to hear that the new generation of BlackBerry smartphones will come with the same touch sensitive bezel found on the tablet.

Mr Heins said: "We wanted a user paradigm that is easy and fast. It's all about making things flow."

The device will now be handed to developers in order to create a range of applications ready for use when the smartphone is released.
