BlackBarry PlayBook OS 2.1 imminent

The new version of the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet operating system, the 2.1 Beta, is expected to be made available to developers in the coming weeks, making a rollout to business users imminent.

PlayBook product manager Michael Clewley revealed on Twitter that the OS 2.1 Beta would be out by the end of May, and time has run out on that.

Research In Motion (RIM) has been testing a host of builds for the 2.1 version of its tablet operating system, however as yet no concrete details have been revealed.

According to Michael Clewley's tweets, the details about the 2.1 update will offered in the blog post when it's available, which means it won't be too long before the exact contents of the update are known.

Version 2.0 of the OS made the tablet somewhat compatible with Android software, opening-up its otherwise fairly limited functionality, which could be continued in the new iteration.

The PlayBook has proved particularly popular with business users due to the impressive security measures in place.
