BES 12 adds Samsung Knox and Apple Enrolment

Canadian smartphone manufacturer BlackBerry has announced that it has added Samsung Knox and Apple Device Enrolment to its BES12 Cloud mobile device management (MDM) product.

The move comes as part of renewed efforts from the company to improve its expertise in bring your own device (BYOD), as well as enterprise MDM.

Samsung Knox allows users with devices that run Android 4.4 or later to manage work and personal modes and a workspace-only mode.

It allows users to run any application securely without the need for application wrapping, supporting Android for Work (AfW) capabilities.

Support for AfW was first announced by BlackBerry back in February 2015, with Rajen Sheth, director of product management for Android and Chrome for Work, stating the technology would help to isolate and protect work data.

He said: “IT can deploy approved work apps right alongside users’ personal apps knowing their sensitive data remains secured.

“People can use their personal apps knowing their employer only manages work data and won’t erase or view their personal content.”

Meanwhile, the addition of Apple Device Enrolment Programme (DEP) will be seen as a move to further accommodate Apple devices, including iPads and iPhones, while simplifying the enrolment of corporate-issued iOS devices.

One of the main advantages that comes with the platform is that it makes it easier for IT managers to have greater supervision over what can in some cases be a large deployment of devices.
