Apple previews iOS 6

Apple has previewed its next operating system iOS 6 at its annual developer conference, which will see over 200 new features.

The new OS will be available on the iPhone and the iPad in the autumn as a free software update and will be packed with advances on current applications.

An all new Maps app has been added with Apple-designed cartography, turn-by-turn navigation and an amazing new Flyover view, while Siri has been updated and is capable of supporting more languages.

Scott Forstall, Apple's senior vice president of iOS Software, said that iOS 6 continues the "rapid pace of innovation that is helping Apple reinvent the phone and create the iPad category".

He added that the Cupertino firm "can't wait" for hundreds of millions of iOS users to experience the incredible new features in iOS 6.

Business users will also have the ability to set up a VIP Mailbox, making it easier to view messages from important people you designate as VIPs or to decline incoming calls with a quick message, set a callback reminder and enable a new Do Not Disturb option.
