Apple hints at smaller iPad

Fresh rumours have emerged that Apple is set to produce a smaller iPad, which will be known as the iPad Mini.

Speculation about a smaller version of the innovative tablet have been circulating since the first device from the Cupertino giant was unveiled, but company founder Steve Jobs had always derided the idea.

However, new reports emerging from the Far East suggest that Apple has placed an order for new smaller screens, indicating the iPad Mini could become a reality in the near future.

Apple remains the main name associated with the technology, despite new products from its rivals, but experts believe a smaller device could be successful.

A mini device could attract business customers to Apple as the tablet would be much easier to carry around and work on the move.

It is currently unclear whether the iPad Mini would also function as a mobile phone, or whether it would be intended for use purely as a smaller tablet.
