Cloud computing will mitigate some security concerns, but bring others to the fore

More and more businesses are turning to the cloud to boost their IT offering, but they will find that it throws up as many questions as answers regarding security.

This is the opinion of David Mahdi, product manager at Entrust.com, who said that the technology will mitigate some protection problems while bringing others to the fore.

"One aspect of cloud that a lot of small and medium businesses are embracing is cloud-based tools," he noted.

"But if you talk to most security experts, they would say how appalling it is how some companies are putting intellectual property and other sensitive information on these cloud-based systems," Mr Mahdi added.

He went on to say that this means that while businesses need to focus on internal network security, they also need to pick a cloud vendor which has excellent protection, particularly if they are wishing to store sensitive data in this way.
