CIOs warming to cloud technologies

Chief information officers (CIOs) at a host of firms are embracing cloud technology and the efficiency gains it can offer businesses that allow employees to work flexibly.

Web-based interviews with 348 CIOs and IT professionals carried out by Dimensional Research, found that 92 per cent of respondents said cloud technology is good for business.

Two-thirds said that using cloud technology helps deliver better systems for less money.

The research commission by Host Analytics, came about after interactions with key customers over the past year.

Diane Hagglund, Dimensional Research principal and the study's author, said: "This is the first cloud research where we focused on CIOs and looked at a broad view of the cloud.

She said the firm was shocked by how positive CIOs were about the cloud.

Among business departments using cloud-based applications, IT makes the most use of the technology by far, at 67 per cent, followed by sales, customer support, marketing and finance.
