Nokia has signed an agreement with Tele2 IoT that will see the two firms collaborate over a five-year period on the implementation and further development of the Internet of Things (IoT).
The project will lead to the provision of IoT services to Tele2's enterprise customers, using Nokia's global IoT network grid WING.
WING will enable Tele2 IoT to offer services not currently available to its customers, which will mean large firms and organisations will be able to access IoT applications to improve healthcare, utility provision, transport and smart city services.
Nokia will offer round-the-clock support and also offer expertise in areas such as regulatory compliance, billing, security, data analytics and connectivity management.
WING is now being made compatible with the systems used by Tele2 IoT. This will include the collaborative development of services based on the latest technology and platforms, such as 5G, Narrowband IoT, LTE for machine-to-machine, SIM management and analytics.
Commenting on the development, head of WING at Nokia Ankhur Bhan said: "Nokia WING will enable Tele2 IoT to offer its enterprise customers a global service with flexible control, low latency and high levels of efficiency and enterprise automation.
"Together we will work on enabling new IoT solutions that can be adopted in various industries to deliver seamless, reliable and efficient processes to help businesses run more intelligently."
Welcoming the development, chief executive officer of Tele2 IoT Rami Avidan described Nokia WING as "a unique concept for worldwide IoT enablement" that will help his company offer better services that can be easily utilised.
The deal marks the latest feather in the cap for Nokia as it seeks to maintain its position a one of the leaders in the IoT.
Last year, it won the top prize for IoT leadership at the TechXLR8 Awards and the Global Telecoms highly commended award in the category 'IoT initiative of the year'. This year, it has been nominated for another prize in the Mobile World Congress in the 'Best Mobile Network Infrastructure' category.
