Google expected to launch developer preview of Android P in March
Published On: March 5, 2018 |
Google could launch the developer preview of the next version of its Android operating system later this month, with expectations that it should be available by the middle of March.
Currently known as Android P due to the alphabetical nature of its naming system, the preview will be released before some devices – including those manufactured by Samsung – have even been updated with Android Oreo.
The revelation comes from Evan Blass, noted and reliable tipster, who tweeted: “Android P Developer Preview 1 is targeting a mid-month release.”
According to TrustedReviews.com, this means the new version could launch between March 12th and March 25th.
It is currently thought that Android P will introduce support for phones that feature notches on the display, such as the Essential Phone. It is also rumoured that the new version of Android will be compatible with folding devices. This will be relevant if Samsung does end up producing the Galaxy X, which will likely feature a folding screen.
Google is also rumoured to be introducing a feature that locks down background apps’ access to a device’s sensors. This means the camera will typically only be accessible to the program running in the foreground.
In addition, experts have predicted that Google will be making it easier for users to screen calls, after certain coding snippets were seen. It is thought that the next version of Android could provide users with the ability to block calls from unknown numbers, private numbers or numbers not in the contact list.
However, most of the significant announcements about the new version will not be revealed until Google’s developer conference, Google I/O, which kicks off on May 8th.
