BlackBerry will reveal its next smartphone later this month, prior to the start of Mobile World Congress 2017.

BlackBerry is set to unveil its next Android smartphone, likely to be called the DTEK70, on February 25th. The device will be something of a return to form, featuring the physical keyboard that made BlackBerry famous.

Currently codenamed the ‘Mercury’, the rumoured specs imply that it is going to be a mid-range device, which means that the price will likely be closer to the £275 DTEK50 than the £475 BlackBerry DTEK60.

There have been rumours that the DTEK70 will come with Android Nougat, the latest update to Google’s operating system. A recent sighting on Geekbench revealed that the phone will indeed come with Android 7.0 installed. It was also revealed there that it will have 3GB of RAM, a significant amount for a mid-range phone.

The smartphone is expected to feature a 4.5inch Full HD touchscreen, and is predicted to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, running at 2.02GHz. Analysts think this means the phone will have 32GB of storage, an 18MP rear camera, an 8MP front-facing camera, a 3,400mAh battery and a fingerprint scanner integrated into the space bar.

A USB Type-C port was also spotted on Geekbench, which points to fast charging being available on the phone.

It is likely that BlackBerry's custom software features will come with the device. Users should be particularly excited about the well reviewed BlackBerry Hub app, for instant access to notifications and messages, and the firm's DTEK mobile security management software.

BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) will also be featured on the phone.

The company will reveal the new smartphone prior to the launch of Mobile World Congress 2017, held in Barcelona from February 27th to March 2nd.
