Recycling your old mobile phones with Arrow couldn’t be easier and might even generate cash which can be offset against a technology fund or donated to a chosen charity.
Our recycling procedures comply fully with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive and we ensure that all the phones we recycle are properly accounted for and disposed of, with a full audit trail.
The WEEE Directive aims to minimise the impacts of electrical and electronic equipment on the environment during their lifetimes and when they become waste. It encourages and sets criteria for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of waste electrical and electronic equipment.
Our fully managed service includes free collection and evaluation of handsets (these must include battery and back cover), payment into a technology fund or charity and the safe disposal of any faulty hardware.
Arrow can arrange collection of equipment from anywhere in the UK and all handsets are tracked and tagged to ensure data security right up until the phones are refurbished or wiped by our in-house technical team.
Mobile phones and their components are often re-used in developing countries helping to improve and develop communications in these economies. Arrow has partnered with a company which supplies phones to businesses in Africa. Alternatively, we may repair handsets and resell them within the UK. If the phones or the batteries are deemed unusable they are sent to a specialist recycler and all components, including chemicals such as lithium and cadmium, are recycled safely or re-used.
Every handset is subjected to a stringent 12 point test which includes erasing data and re-setting the default factory settings. We record the IMEI number, make and model for the purposes of reporting and auditing, but no information linking the handset to it to its previous owner is left on the phone.
