New statistics published by Arieso state iPhone 4S devices use nearly double the amount of data than earlier versions and this is mainly due to Siri.
Siri is Apple’s voice recognition software which was launched with the iPhone 4S. Its ‘personal assistant’ understands your speech and allows you to use your voice to send messages, schedule meetings and much more.
Data consumption is higher because of the complexity of the voice interpretation that Siri uses.
The Siri application records the user’s voice and then sends the voice file to an internet based server. The server then does the ‘heavy lifting’ of converting the speech to text and comprehending the requests. It is the sending of the voice file to the internet server that increases the data usage.
